This thread is to show you how to minimize getting your account hacked. Many of y'all may say that this is common sense, but it's peoples' nature to forget things and as the guild leader, it is my duty to remind you again
First of all, other than the maplestory security leaks, there are no other ways for the account hackers to hack your account if you read and understand this thread.
Most common method is by keylogging or backdooring by somehow getting an unknown file to your computer.
Usually the files are sent from skype, the most popular messenger used by ms players. In most cases, there's no need to download anything since the files sent are usually screenshots and such. Please try to use 3rd party sites such as imgur or puush if you can. Even if they are trusted, if they aren't your relative or sibling, don't accept files from other people it's simple (unless of course you absolutely trust them). Most humans are shady as fuck so even the must trusted people can eventually turn into inhumane scums.
Whenever you visit a website and it's a site that tells you to download some flash update/java update. Never accept, if it does so, just close the browser and move on. Unless the site is secure and approved, downloading files like that usually is harmful for your computer anyways.
Another thing people down really realize is account sharing. I say more than 50%(based on speculation) of account hacking occurs from account sharing. People tend to get greedy so this is very plausible to occur. If you ever share your account, which I advice not to do, lock you goddam items.
But james, what if I have to sell or switch chars?
Just do it anyways, better safe than sorry. There are 3 types of item locks you can purchase in cash shop with MESOS. 7 days, 30 days, and 90 days. Even if it's a hassle (I know I feel your pain), do so, so you dont regret when someone decides to hack your account.
Scan your computer bi-weekly. The program I use is Malwarebyte anti-malware. It's pretty good haha.
If you have more than one computer, try to have one computer only for maple or anything that is done offline and have another computer for social networking, surfing internet, etc.
If you feel like the site is suspicious, try going on your tablet, phone or anything else that is not used for maplestory.
If you feel like you accidently downloaded something weird, then go to run, type in msconfig, services tab, tick, hide all microsoft services, and see if you see anything weird running.
Well that's all I could think of, I will add more to this if anything come up my mind. If you guys have any additional info to combat account hackers, feel free to comment.
tl;dr: don't download anything that's not from a legitimate site, lock your items, dont easily trust people with your account even if they are trustworthy. lock you items.
